Jason Returns
Just like Jason, the returning villain of
the "Friday
the 13th" movies, Medinol, the bête noire for Boston
Scientific, has risen from the grave to haunt them only days after
settling their long-standing dispute about the Express and Nir
stents for $750 million, now with a demand
to share in the royalties of the Liberté stent, which
they say infringes on their design, and which was not included
in the recent close-to-a-billion-dollar settlement.
Not included in the settlement? How could such
a long-standing dispute be considered "settled" without
including a hands off the Liberté clause -- the next big thing
for Boston Scientific?
Stay tuned....

I Say Tomato...
Just a small little nit-pick here (is there
such a thing as a large nit-pick?) but just how does one pronounce
the name of the new Boston Scientific drug-eluting stent: the Liberté.
I have heard Paul LaViolette (COO of the company) use the native
French, "Li-ber-tay", during several conference calls
(as one would expect, given that the last "e" carries
an accent aigu) but in a multimedia
animated clip on the official Boston Scientific website, the
professional (paid!) narrator uses the good ol' American "Li-ber-tee",
as in "Liberty Bell" or "Sweet Liberty" (a
movie in which I was an extra). Could the clip have been produced
during the period when french fries became known as "freedom
fries".
