Nahid, Everett, Washington, USA, May 25, 2005
Please help me! My Mother is 67 and she had a Angioplasty 3 years ago to open a blockage in her left side. Now after three years her stress test shows a blockage (they can not tell the percentage) and additional heart scan shows two blockages. Her Doctor said the heart scans are not precise and he recommends to do the angioplasty to find out the blockage and treat but he suspects it is more than 70% otherwise it would have not been picked up by both tests. Can any one please RECOMMEND a good Surgeon in Everett, WA? or any area close by.

Current Postings:

• I recommend Dr. Raghu Kamineni, MD at 503-585-5585 in Salem, Or. He did my angiogram, and than implanted the stent once he saw that one artery was 90% blocked. He does more stents than any other doctor in Salem area. Is very good.

• Nahid -- we're not in the business of recommending one hospital or physician over another (perhaps some readers can volunteer names) but there are a number, we're sure. You should be asking for an interventional cardiologist, not a surgeon (angioplasties are done by interventional cardiologists). The cardiologist should do at least 75 angioplasties a year (that's the minimum recommended by the American College of Cardiology). High volume operators do at least 400-500. As for the various tests, we agree with your doctor that the likelihood of a blockage is pretty high, given the results of the scans, so a catheterization (angiogram) would seem warranted -- an angioplasty / stent can be done in the same session. Note, if your mother has allergies, or any other medical condition, make sure to tell the cardiologist or nurse before the procedure. Check out our article "You and Your Physician" as well.
