Mark -- right now the only Liberte stent approved
by the F.D.A. in the U.S. is the bare-metal version (here's the press
release announcing the approval on April 14, 2005). Boston Scientific
has been conducting a clinical trial of its drug-eluting version, called
the ATLAS Trial, which completed
enrollment in February. The "Taxus Liberte"
is the drug-eluting version, which the company is hoping to gain
approval
for sometime in 2006, so you must
be
part of a clinical study -- I'm not sure which, however. The only data on
the stent so far is that the Liberte is supposed to be more flexible and
easier
to
place.
The
polymer
drug-coating is supposedly the same as the currently-approved Taxus Express2
drug-eluting stent.
