Abbott and Boston Scientific make equity investment in Paragon Intellectual Properties

October 16, 2006 -- A new West Virginia start-up device company is opening a Research & Development center in Carlsbad, California to develop new stents, nanotechnology, and other innovations -- funded by $15 million in financing from private investors and equity stakes made by both Abbott and Boston Scientific.

Also announced is the formation of a Scientific Advisory Board, composed of a number of high-profile endovascular physicians, such as Drs. Takao Ohki, Juan Parodi, Stephen Ramee, Michael Jaff, Mark Wholey and more. (Dr. Parodi developed the original AAA endograft and both he and Dr. Ohki appear in the documentary, "Vascular Pioneers: Evolution of a Specialty", produced by Angioplasty.Org editor, Burt Cohen.)
