Current Postings on This Page (16):

• American Heart Association states that 1.313 million PCI procedures were done in 2006 -- and greater than 70% involved the use of drug-eluting stents. However, fall 2006 is when the concerns over late stent thrombosis in DES first were publicized and DES use fell precipitously in the last quarter of 2006. As more studies have come out, the benefits of DES over bare metal in specific patient populations has become clearer and DES use is starting to increase again. Current measures show DES at 60% or more. Remember that 1.313 million is the number of procedures; more than one stent may be used in a single procedure.
