YouTube Videos About Stents      Email Bookmark and Share

Abbott Vascular recently posted several YouTube videos about their new XIENCE V drug-eluting stent in an effort to reach patients -- this effort is also called "direct-to-consumer". Any comments??

• Tom - the first link posted went to the Abbott Channel, which displays all of Abbott's YouTube videos. But you're right -- Abbott has added a 4-plus minute scroll of the very detailed IFU (Instructions for Use) to its videos since The Prescription Project petitioned the FDA (the other medical manufacturers in the petition have either done the same or withdrawn the videos). The original videos (without the disclaimers) can be seen on the watchdog group's website.

• I have followed the referenced link, it does not seem quite right, the correct link is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ou8XzsK1j9A In any case, it starts by 14 seconds of warnings, then comes few seconds of animation, followed by 4 and a half minutes of legal disclaimers and warnings. That's way more info than I ever got from my cardio doc, while licking nitroglycerin pills in the ER. Perhaps Abbott already cleaned up the youtube clip. If I had to do it again, I would definitely consider it.

• A watchdog group petitioned the FDA yesterday over several videos posted on YouTube that did not carry the required warnings. One series of videos was posted by Abbott, in support of their new XIENCE drug-eluting stent. Does anyone have a comment?
